Cookie Policy

Which cookies this site uses, what they are for, and how to change your mind.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Some are needed for the site to work at all. Others are there to tell the site's owner how it is being used. This page covers both.

Nothing loads until you choose

The first time you visit, a notice asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Until you accept, the analytics script is not loaded and no analytics cookie is set. Declining is a real option: the site works exactly the same either way, and we will not ask again unless you clear your browser storage.

Your answer is remembered in your browser's local storage, under the name vtest-cookie-consent. That is not a cookie and it is never sent to us. It exists only so the notice does not reappear on every page.

What we use

Analytics, only if you accept.

  • Google Analytics tells us how many people read the site, which pages they read, and roughly where they came from. We use it to decide what to improve. We do not use it to identify anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.

Necessary, regardless of your choice.

  • A session cookie and a security token, set by the site itself. These keep the contact form working and protect it against a well known form of attack. Without them the form cannot be submitted.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile, on the contact page only. It checks that the form is being submitted by a person rather than a bot, and it may store a short-lived value in your browser to do that. It runs invisibly, so most visitors never see anything.

Loaded only when you ask for it.

  • The maps on the station pages are Google Maps. They do not load with the page. Nothing is requested from Google, and no Google cookie is set, until you click to open a map. If you never click one, no map is ever loaded.

Changing your mind

Use the Cookie choices link at the foot of any page to bring the notice back and answer again. Declining after having accepted stops any further analytics from being collected from your browser.

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser's own settings. Blocking the necessary cookies above will stop the contact form working, so if you do that, please call or email us instead.
